Denis Bonner was born in London and trained from the age of ten at the Royal Ballet School. On leaving the school his first professional engagement was with Northern Dance Theatre (now Northern Ballet). After three years he joined the Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet (now Birmingham Royal Ballet). He performed in ballets by Ashton, Balanchine, Cranko, MacMillan, Darrell, Joos, De Valois, Massine, Bournonville and Bintley. He has also danced in the classics notably in productions by Sir Peter Wright.

Bonner subsequently went on to train as a Benesh Choreologist and after completing his studies he returned BRB as a member of artistic staff. Here he has rehearsed and recorded much of the companies’ repertoire notably Peter Wright’s productions and ballets by David Bintley. He has staged many ballets form the BRB repertoire for other companies both at home and internationally.
