Born in Barnaul, Russia, Semyon Chudin graduated from the Novosibirsk State Choreographic College in 2003 as a student of Alexander Shelemov. He began his career with the Universal Ballet company in Seoul, where he performed leading roles in The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Giselle, among others. In the 2007/08 season, he joined the Zurich Ballet, and between 2008 and 2011, he was a principal dancer at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.
Since 2011, he has been a principal dancer at the Bolshoi Theatre, where, in addition to major classical ballets, he has performed in neoclassical works by choreographers such as John Neumeier, George Balanchine, and John Cranko. Throughout his career, he has performed not only in Russian theatres but also for audiences in the United States, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Egypt, and Germany. Among his numerous awards and honours, the most notable are the Benois de la Danse Prize (2011) and the Grand Prix of the Dance Open International Ballet Festival (2016). Additionally, in 2018, the Italian Danza&Danza magazine named him Dancer of the Year.
