In Brief
Song and aria recital in two parts, with Hungarian, English, and same-language subtitles
The internationally renowned lyrical coloratura mezzo-soprano, Joyce DiDonato, is one of the most well-known performers in today's international opera scene. Her musical talent was soon evident, she sang in local musicals during her high school years, later she became interested in teaching. However, a television broadcast of Don Giovanni had such an impact on her that she turned to singing herself, but success did not come her way. It was then that she decided that she had to fundamentally change her singing technique, and consequently, she became the owner of a voice that brought her fame. Her incredibly wide repertoire includes masterpieces of Baroque music, the most important pieces of Romantic operas, and contemporary compositions, but her galas and recitals also include sophisticated popular music. The recipient of numerous awards and honours, she was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award for his operatic work and received the Grammy Award three times, most recently for an album on which she mixed baroque and classical melodies with jazz and Latin American rhythms. Her name and captivating personality are known everywhere around the world, she has also performed in Budapest, but this is the first time she will showcase her talent in the magical acoustics of the Opera House. The performance of the artist with a fantastic aura will be a worthy conclusion to the third season of the Stars’ recitals with piano series.
