One of the most gifted and distinguished lyric tenors of his generation, Matthew Polenzani’s elegant musicianship, innate sense of style, dramatic commitment, and timeless artistry have established his continued presence at leading operatic, concert, and recital venues worldwide. Following his 1997 debut at the New York Metropolitan Opera, he soon received invitations from the greatest opera houses and festivals of Bordeaux, Paris, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Frankfurt, London, Milan, and the Far East. He has starred in more than 300 performances at the MET, and his appearance in Der Rosenkavalier as the Italian singer partnered with Renée Fleming and Elīna Garanča was enjoyed by millions worldwide in a live broadcast. He is also a sought-after artist in concert halls accompanied by renowned American pianists, and he has worked with such conductors as Sir Colin Davis, Riccardo Muti, Sir Antonio Pappano, Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Chailly, and Daniel Harding. He was to make his Hungarian debut in the OPERA’s new Don Carlo production in 2021, but he had to cancel due to illness. In a personal message on his social media site, he expressed his wish to sing in Budapest one day. The long-awaited moment has now come, and the tenor known from MET is to give a recital at the Opera House.
