The OperaWednesday series featured one of the most tragic love stories of all time on 24 February 2021. The most beautiful excerpts from Madama Butterfly by Puccini were streamed from the Sándor Hevesi Stage of the Eiffel Art Studios from 8:00 p.m. on Facebook and Origo.hu.
The tale of Cio-Cio san and Pinkerton stands out as one of the finest romantic tragedies ever written. Convinced that her 'temporary marriage' is not only legally binding, but also founded on reciprocated feelings, 'Madama' Butterfly loses every last shred of hope, until death offers the only possible escape. "Had it not been set in an exotic locale far from here," went the commentary on the play that inspired the libretto, "the suffering would be unbearable." For opera lovers, Puccini's wonderful music elevates tragedy to the heights of catharsis.
The concert highlights of the opera featured Andrea Rost in the title role, her partners were Andrea Ulbrich (Suzuki), Gergely Boncsér (Pinkerton), Anatolij Fokanov (Sharpless) and Zoltán Megyesi (Goro) with Kálmán Szennai on the piano. Artistic director of the performance: Mária Anna Kovács, narrator: Dániel Mona.
