The Hungarian soprano studied with Mária Fekete at the Béla Bartók Conservatory and under Júlia Pászthy at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest as well as under Gabriele Fuchs at Munich's Hochschule für Musik und Theater. She is an award winner of the international singing competitions »Francisco Viñas« as well as »New Voices« and in 2012 was a member of the »Young Singers Project« at the Salzburg Festival.
During the 2013/2014 season she was a member of the opera studio at Bayerische Staatsoper where she could be heard singing, among others, in various Lieder concerts, in the title role of Martinů’s »Mirandolina« and as Miriam in »Zeisl Hiob«, for which she received the festival prize of the 2014 Munich Opera Festival. Additional parts there were, inter alia, Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) and Gianetta (L’elisir d'amore). Same year she recieved the Prima Primissima Junior Prize from Hungary and was chosen the Singer of the year 2014 by the daily newspaper “ Abendzeitung” in Munich.
Since 2008 Mária Celeng has been a regular guest in the Palace of Arts in Budapest where she could be heard singing in, among others, The Fairy Queen, L’elisir d'amore, Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien and in Haydn's Nelson-Messe with the Hungarian National Philharmonic. In 2016 she took on the soprano solo part in Haydn’s Creation under Adam Fischer. With the Munich Hofkapelle under Michael Hofstetter she sang Araspe in Hasse’s Didone abbandonata at Munich’s Prinzregententheater and in the Castle of Versailles in 2011.
Further guest appearances took this singer, among others alongside of José Cura, Ruggero Raimondi and Patricia Cioffi to the Théâtre Antique d’Orange, as Tebaldo (Don Carlo) to the Salzburg Festival and as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) and Iluska (Pongrác Kacsóh’s János vitéz) to the Hungarian State Opera. At the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 2013 she represented Hungary as a finalist. During the 2014/2015 season she debuted as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) at Budapest State Opera and as Drusilla (L’incoronazione di Poppea) at La Scala in Milan.
2016 she sang in Die Liebe der Danae with Franz Welser Möst at the Salzburg Festival, 2017 Despina (Così fan tutte) at the Opéra Garnier in Paris with Philippe Jordan and 2018 Valetto/Amore (L’incoronazione di Poppea) at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin with Diego Fasolis.
Mária Celeng gave her debut at Gärtnerplatztheater in 2012 in the title role in Janáček's Das schlaue Füchslein. Since 2017 she is member of the ensemble and interpretated roles like Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Baronin Freimann (Der Wildschütz), Lucile Desmoulins (Dantons Tod), Luise (Der junge Lord), Mimì and Musetta (La bohème), Pamina and First Lady (»Die Zauberflöte«), Tatjana (Eugen Onegin), Josepha von Weisborn (Schuberts Reise nach Atzenbrugg), Giulietta (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Luisa Miller (Luisa Miller), Ann Trulove (The Rake’s Progress),and Anita (Jonny spielt auf).
