Gergely Dubóczky is one of the most versatile and innovative conductors of his generation. Following his studies in mathematics, he graduated summa cum laude as a conductor from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. He went on to study at BARD College, New York and at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Vienna. On Zoltán Kocsis’ invitation he worked as assistant conductor at the Hungarian National Philharmonic, later he worked with Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. After receiving the Richard Wagner Scholarship in Bayreuth, he made his debut there at a gala, and he also collaborated with Ádám Fischer, assisting him at the Budapest Wagner Days. Strongly committed to contemporary music he founded the ensemble Budapest Sound Collective in 2014 to present experimental works as well as the classical repertoire from a dynamic approach.
He has conducted virtually all the renowned Hungarian orchestras, for two years he was the music director of the Hungarian Alba Regia Symphony Orchestra, he is a regular guest at performances by Concerto Budapest, and since 1 May 2023, he has been artistic director of the Szeged Symphony Orchestra. He made his opera debut with Mozart’s Don Giovanni, since then he has conducted stage works by Bartók, Britten, Mozart, Purcell, J. Strauss II, and contemporary composers, at the International Opera Festival Miskolc, for instance. He makes his debut at the Hungarian State Opera with Artaban by Attila Pacsay at the Eiffel Art Studios in 2023.
