Ferruccio Furlanetto’s international career began as King Philip II in Verdi’s Don Carlo at the Salzburg Easter Festival with Herbert von Karajan in 1986. In the same year, he debuted at the Salzburg Summer Festival with the role of Figaro. His debuts on the leading opera stages happened earlier: Teatro alla Scala (1979), Metropolitan Opera (1980), Vienna State Opera (1985).
He has collaborated with all leading orchestras and conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Carlo Maria Giulini, Sir Georg Solti, Leonard Bernstein, Valery Gergiev, Lorin Maazel, Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, Daniel Barenboim, Georges Prêtre, James Levine, Semyon Bychkov, Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, Riccardo Muti, Mariss Jansons, Vladimir Jurowski, Tugan Sokhiev, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Jesus Lopez Cobos, Alain Altinoglu, and many others.
Highlights of recent years are his performances at the Metropolitan Opera, at the Australian Opera of Sydney and Melbourne, Teatro alla Scala theatre (Montemezzi’s L’Amore dei Tre Re) at the Vienna State Opera (Macbeth and Eugene Onegin), the Royal Opera House (Simon Boccanegra, La Forza del Destino, Don Carlos) the Baden Baden Festival (Simon Boccanegra), as well as in St Petersbourg, Staatsoper Berlin and San Francisco. Ferruccio Furlanetto received many awards during his career among which the Premio alla Carriera in 2019 and title of Cavaliere di Verdi. He is an Honorary Ambassador to the United Nations, as well as Kammersänger and Honorary Member of the Vienna State Opera.
Hungarian audiences were first introduced to him in 2010 when he appeared as Philip II in Verdi's Don Carlo, followed by successes at the 2014 Freedom Opera Gala and an aria recital at the Erkel Theatre in 2019.
