Polish tenor Piotr Beczała is a regular guest in the world’s leading opera houses. At the New York Metropolitan Opera, he has portrayed the Prince (Rusalka), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Vaudémont (Iolanta), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Des Grieux (Manon), as well as the title roles in Roméo et Juliette and Faust. Other appearances include Lohengrin (title role) at Dresden Semperoper, Werther (title role), Der Rosenkavalier (a singer) and Carmen (Don José) at Vienna Staatsoper, Lucia di Lammermoor (Edgardo) at Opernhaus in Zurich. In recent years, he sang Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at Dresden Semperoper, gave several recitals with pianist Helmut Deutsch at Theater im Park, in Vienna, Luxembourg Philharmonie, and Musikverein in Graz and gave a series of recitals in South America. Other roles of his repertoire include Manrico (Il Trovatore) at Zurich Opernhaus, the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) and Lenski (Eugene Onegin) at New York Metropolitan Opera, Cavaradossi (Tosca) and Riccardo at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.
Piotr Beczała received the ECHO Klassik Award “Singer of the Year” in 2014 and the Opus Klassik Awards in the same category in 2021. In 2019, he was made Kammersänger at the Vienna Staatsoper and received an honorary Ph.D from the Music Academy in Katowice in 2022.
On the grand opera stage, Piotr Beczala's presence is felt across the globe. This season, he stars in three new productions: in the title role of Lohengrin by Kirill Serebrennikov for the Paris Opera, as Don Jose in Carmen for the Metropolitan Opera’s new production by Carrie Cracknell and led by Daniele Rustioni, and in the Royal Opera House’s new production of Carmen at London's Covent Garden. With the Vienna State Opera, he takes star turns as Faust alongside Nicole Car as Marguerite, and as Cavaradossi in Tosca opposite Elena Stikhina in the title role, under the baton of Bertrand de Billy. He reprises Cavaradossi in Las Palmas and will appear in Land des Lächelns as Prince Sou-Chong at Opernhaus Zürich.
Piotr Beczala’s musical endeavors also encompass an array of concerts, adding to his rich repertoire. He graces Vienna Konzerthaus in the long-awaited Great Voices concert, partners with pianist Sarah Tysman for a recital at Bratislava Music Festival's Concert Hall and is heard in Moniuszko’s rarely performed Halka in concert at Madrid's Teatro Real. His presence continues to resonate in a gala concert at Stockholm's Royal Swedish Opera, enchants Prague's Smetana Hall with his performance, and sings a recital in Budapest's Opera House, showcasing his vocal prowess. A highlight of his concert season is a collaboration with Andris Nelsons, commemorating Beethoven's 200th anniversary with a powerful performance of Symphony No. 9 at Leipzig's Gewandhaus. His journey continues with captivating recitals at Opernhaus Zurich and the Vienna Konzerthaus, culminating in a memorable performance at Dresden's Classic Open Air 2024 on the Dresdner Neumarkt, marking the grand finale of his remarkable musical season.
